Patient Path

Name changed and photo for illustrative purposes only Jakub had been rejected by a local Further Education college and needed to rethink his plans. He had just relocated back to the area after being in care and had moved into supported living. After a visit to look around Jakub enthusiastically joined the Achieve Life Skills programme. He hoped it would help him make a successful application for that sought after college place in a year’s time. Jakub knew the programme would also help him to gain some valuable life skills to support his independence and it represented a great opportunity to get used to being in an educational setting again. Jakub settled in well to the programme, making new friends and working hard on his coursework. Over the year at Achieve his confidence grew and he really enjoyed different aspects of the programme, especially weekly cooking and going on trips. Jakub worked well with having small goals to achieve so that he got a sense of accomplishment after each day of learning. Tutors found that helping Jakub to see the progress he made each day helped to motivate and encourage him to want to learn more. Jakub did particularly well in his Maths and English Functional Skills, having passed both this year, the first qualifications he has gained in Maths and English. Jakub had a great year at Achieve, gaining qualifications, learning new skills and making friends. To top it off, he was accepted on to an animal care course at the local Further Education college. A year at Achieve has given him the skills he needed to be accepted onto the course.
