Introduction

New Meaning Training offers education with a difference. We’re different because we work to enable young people who achieved little progress at a mainstream setting to discover how they are going to earn their own living, and to take their first steps towards this.

The young people supported on any of the learning programmes can vary considerably in their learning pathway needs. They have often failed at school because they were “forced” into a learning plan (scheme of work) and approach that did not suit their specific needs.

The key focus for this role is to support, guide and direct the development of young people enrolled on the construction course, to support, guide and direct the development of young people and staff within the team.

As a Lead Tutor for our Construction Multiskills programme you will be working as part of and lead a team to generate creative ideas for ways to support very hard to engage young people.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. To have provided your Enhanced DBS or to have completed the forms to apply for it with 1 week of joining

2. Familiarise yourself with the following policies and attend refresher training when organised:

a. Safeguarding of Children and Vulnerable Adults and Prevent Policy

b. Learner Behaviour Policy

c. Health and Safety Policy

3. Work with learners, parents/carers, careers services, Youth Justice Services, Schools, and other referral partners or agencies to enable the young people to complete the construction programme, achieve their qualifications and progress toward living a more independent life.

4. Encourage and reinforce to learners the links between regular attendance, participation, effort and positive outcome for them.

5. To work as part of and lead a team to deliver qualifications in Construction multi skills, Functional Skills Maths and English as well as a Tutorials Programme which embeds British Values.

6. lead a team to organise practical activities that enable learners to strengthen their independence.

7. To arrange, construction site visits, employer talks and trips to provide them real world experience of the workplace.

8. To work as part of and lead a team to generate creative ideas for ways to support very hard to engage young people.

9. To complete and have the responsibility of all paperwork and assessments to the required standard set out by our Buckinghamshire College Group (with whom we work in partnership) our qualification Awarding Body, NOCN.

10. Maintain your own diary and update all progress trackers each week.

11. Work with your line manager to manage your CPD programme.

12. Performance manage your team and so that standards are met in line with Ofsted requirements.

Qualifications / Education / Role requirements

Industry knowledge, competence, and experience are valued the most; however, any relevant teaching qualifications would be useful.

IOSH Certificate is preferred, but training will be given if you do not hold this qualification – see below.

1. To complete the following CPD courses within 3 months of starting (unless you already have these qualifications).

-Level 3 Education & Training

-Safeguarding Children advanced – Level 2

-Internal Systems Training

Extremism and Radicalisation Awareness

2. To complete the following CPD courses within 9 months of starting (unless you already have these qualifications).

-Mental Health Awareness

-Child Sexual Exploitation Awareness

-Child Mental Health Awareness

-Child Online Safety Awareness

3. To complete the following CPD courses within 24 months of starting (unless you already have these qualifications).

-Level 4 Certicicate in Education and Training

· Creation and regular updates of risk assessments for all learners

-Enhanced DBS check required.
